Photographer of the Year 2017

This years photographer of the year competition saw 26 members enter 6 prints each, which gave our judges a sizeable amount of prints to judge. 
The Judges this year were John Sexton, Seammus Costello, and Paddy Barker:
  • John Sexton is a local professional photographer who used to be a member of cork camera group and also teaches photographer in St John’s college. John shoots primarily Weddings and Portraits, however has previous club experience and has even produced the odd landscape or two.
  • Seamus Costello is no stranger to Cork Camera Group. A fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation, FIAP and a regular judge on the distinction panels, he’s an excellent judge of all area’s of club photography and gives great feedback to photographers no their images. 
  • Paddy Barker, another local photographer and probably no stranger to may members of the club, as i am sure many of you will have been to his shop, Barker Photographic, and Paddy is the main sponsor of the Rebel Cup, The Cork Salon, and has always been generous tot he club and club members. Paddy is also another professional photographer, having worked as a dark room technician for the Irish Examiner, before working as a Photographer, and then working as the Picture editor for the Examiner for 13 years. 
This year the winners and runner up’s were as follows.

First Place: Diarmuid O’Sullivan   115 pts
Runner Up: Massimo Berta           111 pts 
 
Grade 3
First Place:  Lynda Kenny            108 pts
Runner Up:  John D Sullivan        103 pts

Photographer of the Year 2016

Our final competition, our Photographer of the Year, took place on Tuesday May 17th and with 24 photographers competing across all three grades, we were once again treated to a great competition.  Results and images are below!

Photographer of the Year 2012

Photographer of the Year is over for another year and with it the end of another year of competitions within the club.  Thanks to everyone who pitched in to help run POTY on the night, but especially thanks to Jason & Niamh for taking care of not just this competition but all the competitions throughout the season. Thanks also to the Brid Coakley, John Hooton & Morgan O’Neill from Mallow Camera Club who judged POTY.

So onto the results….

Congratulations go to Niamh Whitty, our new photographer of the year. Congratulations also go to Tom Whelton for claiming grade 2 title & Stephen O’Mahony for winning grade 3.  Tom & Stephen are now also promoted to Grade 1 for next year’s competitions.

Runners-up were Polina Kasapova, Noel O’Connell & Robert Moloney in grades 1, 2 & 3 respectively.

Photographer of the Year 2011

Photographer of the Year is over for another year & before posting the results, would just like to thank everyone involved in organising & running the competition on the night, to everyone who entered images & to the judges from Mallow Camera Club – all making this year’s POTY a big success!

Congratulations go to Michael O’Sullivan for retaining his title for the 4th year running! Congratulations also go to Paul Flynn for claiming grade 2 title & Shah Shahidi for winning grade 3.

Runners-up were Jason Town, Marion O’Connell & Robert Moloney in grades 1, 2 & 3 respectively.

The final competition is over and the dust is settling on another season for Cork Camera Group, well until the AGM stirs it up again.
