Club Competitions

Every month the club holds competitions in the following categories:

Colour prints
Monochrome prints
Projected images (Digital and Slide)

Digital images must be uploaded to the inbox no later than midnight on the Tuesday before the competition night.

The competitions for 2008/9 season are:


    1. September: Backyard Safari
      The subject must be an animal/insect/bird typically found in an Irish back garden..
      Example: An image of a common bee would be acceptable.
      An image of a Cheetah taken in Fota or of Flora would not.

    2. October: Round
      The main subject or overall image shall clearly suggest 'Round'.
      Example: An image where a wheel is the main subject would be acceptable.
      A portrait of person with a small round pocket-watch in a shirt would not (the watch is not the main subject or theme).

    3. November: Self Portrait
      The photo must be of the Photographer.

    4. December : Season – Autumn
      The photo shall clearly depict an Autumn scene.

    5. January: Architecture
      The photo shall clearly depict a building or an architectural feature as the main subject.

    6. February: Not My Life
      The photo must contain a scene where the subject and/or living conditions outlined in the photo are very different to that of the photographer.
      Example: An image of a tramp on the street would be acceptable. - An image of a child in a playground would not.

    7. March: Motion
      It should be obvious that the main subject is moving (preferably with motion blur).

    8. April: Macro
      The photo must be of a subject that is very small.
      Example: A photo of a 1 cent coin would be acceptable. - A photo of a dolls house would not.

At the end of the year we hold the Photographer of the Year competition where members can put up their 10 best photos taken in the past year. The rules for 2008 are here.
