Outing - July 9th[news]
Club outing this weekend:
This coming Saturday (July 9th) is the first day of Carrigtowhill Medieval Festival @Barryscourt Castle, Carrigtowhill.
Club members can meet up in the car park at the event at 11am on Satruday morning. Entrance to the event costs €10 and should provide lots of photo opportunites!

End of season night out[news]
Our end of season night out takes place on Tuesday (May 31st) @ The LV, MacCurtin St. from 8pm onwards.
Come along for a night of drinks, finger food, chat & a chance to match names with faces before this season ends :-)
You will find LV on the corner of MacCurtain St. & York St. We will be meeting in the back room of the bar!

Photographer of the Year is over for another year & before posting the results, would just like to thank everyone involved in organising & running the competition on the night, to everyone who entered images & to the judges from Mallow Camera Club - all making this year's POTY a big success!

Monthly league overall results [news]
With our final round now over, all positions in the league have been confirmed and the results the 2010/2011 league are attached. Grade 1 was the most hotly contested grade throughout the season with 8 members entering maximum number of images each month. In the end it came down to a battle between the 2009 & 2010 champions, Jason & Nathan, with Jason eventually claiming the top spot, Nathan in 2nd and Paul Maher in 3rd place.
In Grade 2, Ann Francis emerged as the clear winner with Catherine Stevens placing 2nd and John Finn 3rd.
Grade 3 saw Veronique Mohally come out top, with Shah Shahidi 2nd & Leonard Stone 3rd.

League - Round 8 Results - Theme 'Flight'[news]
In colour print, Jason Town took 1st place with 40 points, Finbarr Ronan took joint 2nd (with himself!) on 36 points and Veronique Mohally, Marion O'Connell & Paul Maher shared 3rd place with 31 points.
Monochrome print was won by our reigning monochrome king, Eric Dunne-Magner with a score of 33 points. Mark McGranaghan placed 2nd with 32 points and in 3rd place was Paul Flynn with 31 points.
Virginia Kelleher took 1st place in projected images with 40 points, followed by Jason Town in 2nd place with 39 points and John Finn in 3rd with 36 points.

Distinctions Success! [news]
After a very nerve-wracking day in Athlone on Saturday, delighted to announce that everyone who went for their distinctions at the weekend from Cork Camera Group were successful!!
Jason Town & Niamh Whitty are now proud owners of AIPF distinctions & Susan Gaine, Polina Kasapova & Frank van Pelt all gained LIPF distinctions. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!!!
The club finals were also held over the weekend and we did well, coming 5th in colour prints, joint 10th in mono prints and 8th overall. There were 27 clubs competing and the standard was as high as ever. We'll be showing club panels along with distinctions panels at tomorrow night's (April 19th) meeting.
Thanks to Jason, Michael & Niamh for all the work that went into putting the club panels together. And of course, thanks to everyone who put images forward!!
Our congratulations also go to Mallow Camera Club on winning the overall club title, along with a bucketful of other awards, both individually and as a club. Well done!
Club finals and distinctions sitting [news]
IPF National Club finals take place this coming weekend (April 16th & 17th) in Athlone IT. More details available here.
In addition to the club finals, the spring distinction sitting is also taking place on Saturday at Athlone IT. Several members are putting forward panels for assesment - we wish them the very best of luck!!

IPF Nature Competition[news]
The 2011 IPF National Nature finals took place in Dublin Zoo on March 27th. Our club was well represented having several members whose images had qualified through SACC regional round of the competition back in January.
Congratulations to Niamh Whitty for her 3rd place projected image at the finals and well done to everyone else who had images in the finals but missed the awards. Most of the entries from the Cork Gamera Group were held back for use in international competitions representing Ireland due to their high scores on the day.
Congratulations also to Mícheál Howard, previously the youngest member of our club and now representing UL Photographic Society. Michéal won 2 gold medals and also overall best image. We wish him well and hope that when he returns from college he will join us again.....!!

SACC Inter-club Competition, March 6th 2011, Mallow [news]
Mallow Camera Club hosted this years SACC interclub competition last Sunday.
We placed second in both colour and monochrome prints and third in projected images. Overall we finished in second place, which is a great result. Mallow swept the board with firsts in all 3 sections and 2 out of 3 best images.
We would like to thank everyone who entered images, not only those people whose images made the final panels, but to everyone who put images forward. We had a bigger than normal selection of images this year which made the job of getting 3 good panels a little easier.
Special thanks to Jason Town for the huge amount of work he put into this competition and to Michael O'Sullivan for taking care of the printing.
The national club finals will take place April 16th & 17th in Athlone.

Exhibition - Cork Vision Centre[news]
Cork Camera Group's annual exhibtion in association with Cork Civic Trust was officailly opened on Tuesday, March 1st at Cork Vision Centre by Brian Lougheed, Pictures Editor, The Evening Echo with the Lord Mayor Cllr Michael O'Connell in attendance. Our exhibition will remain hanging until March 28th. Admission is free.
This years winner of the Kevin Ryan Memorial Cup was Michael O'Sullivan - presented by Carmel Ryan.
Huge thanks are due to Audrey Murphy for organising the exhibtion, and also to Helen & Nathan for their help on opening night.

IPF Print & Projected Images Competition[news]
On Sunday, February 20th, the national finals of IPF Print & Projected Images competition took place in Athlone. We would like to congratulate Michael O'Sullivan on his image 'Lughnasadh' for which he received a highly commended award from the judges. Several other club members also had images in the competition after qualifying through regional round before Christamas - well done to all.

League - Round 6 Results - Theme 'Nighttime'[news]
Another good monthly competition with some interesting and creative work from all entrants. Numbers were down slightly but probably due to the theme.
Colour Print was won by Jason Town with his shot of Kilcrea Friary on 45 points followed in 2nd place by Paul Flynn on 44 points and 3rd by John Finn and Eric Dunne-Magner on 43 points.
As a result of Pauls consistent level of entries he has now been promoted to Grade 2 on the Average score rule. Congratulation Paul !!.
Monochrome was won by Nathan Richardson with his excellent New York Bridge shot on 44 points followed by a four way tie for 2nd between Niamh Whitty, Paul Maher, Paul Flynn and Eric Dunne-Magner, all scoring 43 points. There was also joint 3rd between Nathan Richardson and Jason Town on 42 points.
Projected was won by Jason Town on 44 points with his Radar Star trails shot followed by Frank Van Pelt on 43 points and 3rd was a 3 way tie between Catherine Stevens, Paul Flynn and Niamh Whitty on 42 points.
Congratulations to Frank on his first top 3 finish especially as it was his first competition entry after only recently joining the club.

SACC Nature Competition[news]
Congratulations to Niamh Whitty who won a SACC gold medal for best flora in yesterday's competition and to Danny Foley who got third place in the print section.
There was five people from the club who took part in today's competition; Niamh Whitty, Danny Foley, Polina Kasapova, Jason Town and Coleman Howard. Everyone who took part today had images qualify for the national finals in March. An excellent job from everyone concerned. Well done!
Also congratulations to former member Micheál Howard now with UL camera club who got second place in the print section.

Another interesting competition with lots of great images entered so well done to all that took part.
Jason Town took first place in the colour print. Second in Colour went to Nathan Richardson, followed by joint third places for Ger Murphy and Paul Flynn.
Eric Dunne-Magner took the top spot in the Mono Section. Second in Mono went to Nicola Duggan and Third to Paul Maher.
Jason & Eric shared joint top spot in projected images. Joint Second in projected went to Paul Flynn and John Finn and third place went to Nathan Richardson.
This keeps it tight in grade 1 with Jason and Nathan battling it out for top spot.
Grade 2 is lead by Ann Francis followed closely by Catherine Stevens.
Grade 3 has a runaway leader, Veronique Mohally.

Congratulations to Michael O'Sullivan who won gold and bronze medals in the projected image section and a silver medal in the colour print section.

This round had quality and quantity with many great images and an excellent amount of images submitted.
Nathan Richardson took top spot with his colour print scoring a massive 49 points followed closely by Jason Town and Joe Forde.Paul Maher got the winning mono image with an excellent shot of his Dad. Eric Dunne-Magner took both 2nd and 3rd place with his images.Projected was taken by Jason Town with Virginia Kelleher taking second and Nathan Richardson in third.
Grade 1 Jason Town is in first place overall, with Nathan Richardson in close second and Niamh Whitty in third.
Grade 2 Paul Maher is out in front, followed by Ann Francis and Susan Gaine.
Grade 3 is led by Veronique Mohally, followed by Leonard Stone and Eric Dunne-Magner.

To all that were there tonight, thanks very much for your patience with the delay in judging. We were surprised with the number of prints in this months comp, after seeing a smaller than normal amount of projected.
There was joint 1st's on 44 points in the colour section, both images by Jason Town. Well done Jason. 2nd place was also joint finish with Veronique Mohally and John Tarrant both scoring 38 points. Congrats to Veronique on her first top 3 finish since she joined the club.
In the Mono section, Audrey Murphy took top spot with 42 points and then joint 2nd went to Nathan Richardson and Eric Dunne-Magner on 41 points. Projected was won with an impressive 45 points by Noel O'Connell with his fabulously composed :-) shot. Joint 2nd on 42 points went to Nathan Richardson and Jason Town.
Their are 3 people in grade 3 now with averages over the grade 2 average. These are Ann Francis, John Finn and Eric Dunne-Magner, if they keep this up, next month they will be promoted to grade 2 as per promotion rules.

Exhibition - School of Music[news]
On October 19th, we have the opening of our exhibition in the Cork School of Music at the earlier time of 7:30pm sharp.The exhibition will be opened by singer songwriter John Spillane.
League - Round 1 Results - Open Theme[news]
Congratulation to Finbar Ronan for his winning colour image, Lucia Creedon for her winning Mono and Nathan Richardson for winning the projected section. Overall the results for grade one look similar to how we left them last season with Nathan holding the top spot in Grade 1 after round one with 125 points followed by Jason one point behind in second.
In Grade 2, Paul Maher leads on 105 points with Angela Murphy in close second on 104.
Grade 3 is headed up by Ann Francis on 99 points and Leonard Stone in second.
Ann also had an average score higher than grade 2 total so she if she continues with that standard of entries will soon be promoted to grade two.
