Monthly Competition Rules
- Definition of themes
The photographic interpretation of themes can in some cases be broader than was intended to the point where some submissions may in fact be out of theme. To reduce the risk of this each competition will have a title and a brief explanation of the intent of the theme.
- Age limit on submissions
The purpose of the monthly competitions is to provide a forum for people to improve their photographic skills. The key to this is to be out there taking photos. To aid this any given photograph can submitted to one and only one monthly competition. Note this applies to all photos submitted to monthly competitions prior to 2008 and going forward to all monthly competitions. Submitting the same photograph under different themes is not permitted.
- Entry Limits
Each Photographer can enter a maximum of 4 photographs and no more than two photographs into any one category i.e Monochrome, Colour & Projected (Slide & Digital).
- Preregistration of entries
Members are required to register their submissions prior to the start of the compeition. Registration will open at 7.30pm on the night and close at 8pm. This is to make time for the feedback to photographers.
- Right of refusal
Club members are expected to honour and play by the rules. The committee reserves the right to refuse entry for particular images to a league competition that deemed to break either the intent of the theme or the age limit on submission. The committee's decision will be final on the night.
- Scoring
Every member attending on the night has the opportunity to vote for their first, second and third preference in each category. These votes are accumulated and the top eight photos (or half of the total competing) score points. The points scoring is as follows:
- 10 points
- 8 points
- 6 points
- 5 points
- 4 points
- 3 points
- 2 points
- 1 point
In the event of a tie both will receive the same points and the next place is voided - eg. joint first place both receive 10 points and there is no second place.
- Feedback to photographers
On the night of a competiton during the counting of the scores Grade 1 members will be asked to provide comment and feedback on each of the submissions. The intent of the feedback is to highlight the stong points of the photo and areas where the photo might be improved. From time to time we may seek external input. This feedback session has no impact on the scores.
- Submission of Digital Images
Digital images must be submitted to the "Inbox" on the gallery page no later than midnight on the Tuesday prior to the competition. The images must be uploaded with a short descriptive filename (less than 30 characters). The photographer must remain anonymous.
